Atmosphere by Taylor Jenkins Reid

A phenomenal love story in the midst of science and history. I loved that this story tore through the human heart with resilience and devotion.

Joan Goodwin and Vanessa Ford are beautiful characters. I loved the devotion they had to each other and Joan’s niece, Frances.

Dreams do come true in life and love.

Many may equate this story to the common “woke” tome because there exists a gay couple at the heart of the story, but truth be told, if you remove gender as a factor and look at just the love and beauty between two human beings it is breathtaking.

I commend Taylor Jenkins Reid on her writing, without applying any personal preference or belief to the subject matter, the writing is phenomenal, in my opinion, The story is breathtaking. Everyone should find a love like that.

Joan, a content college professor with a niece she adores, stumbles on an advertisement that changes her life. An applicant, among thousands, she makes the cut to follow her dreams among the stars, as an astronaut.

There she finds the family among colleagues and friends that she never felt at home. With all the tenacity of difficult training regimes and the blooming heart, Joan finds her place in the universe.

This story shows how the heart can outshine the stars when we follow its lead and chase our dreams. I loved it! 5/5

My favorite quotes:

“Bravery is being unafraid of something other people are afraid of. Courage is being afraid, but strong enough to do it anyway.” pg 53

“Astronomy was history. Because space was time. And that was the thing she loved most about the universe itself.” Pg 43
