Keeper of Lost Children by Sadeqa Johnson
This story is about children that were left behind. Hundreds if not thousands of mixed race children were abandoned during WWII.
This book intertwines the lives of three people over the span of decades. Ethel Gagthers’ life changes when she longingly follows a group of children in the care of a nun. In the rubble of WWII, Ethel finds purpose as military wife in a place where she feels disconnected.
Ozzie Philips, an American soldier signed up, taking a European post in hopes of breaking barriers for Black soldiers. He finds comfort in the company of a German woman.
Then there’s Sophia Clark, who chases opportunity at a prestigious school. She discovers secrets that tear her world apart.
This was a gripping story. It was so well constructed, I was captivated by the characters from the start. I loved that it brought a piece of history forward – one that I never knew about.
I admire it when an author can capture my attention, teach me something, and entertain me with a story. Well done! 5/5⭐
I would like to Thank NetGalley for the opportunity to review an ARC of this title. The opinions expressed her are my own.
