The Christmas Ring by Karen Kingsbury
A beautiful ring was found in the sand, on D-day, while Vanessa’s great-grandfather was on the shores of Normandy. He pocketed the ring and it became a family heirloom, referred to affectionately as “the Christmas ring.” Many years later, Vanessa lost the ring while on a trip with her daughter. She looked for it for years in thrift and antique shops. The value she was assured was purely sentimental as it was only costume jewelry. Still the loss hurt.
After dropping her daughter off at college, she stopped in an antique store just to browse. She didn’t expect much. She held hope that someone would have found it an it would find her again.
She didn’t find the ring that day but she did find Ben, he co-owned the store with his father. Ben was a charming man that she couldn’t seem to forget. Over time a friendship blossomed. Ben’s father purchased a box of random items in an auction lot of antiques. In that box there was some jewelry, included was a beautiful ring.
Ben’s father had no idea about Vanessa’s ring but he was overjoyed to find a life-changing valuation on the ring he found. Once Ben realized what the ring might be, he worried that his life may change significantly over what happened next.
This was a sweet, cozy romance with a wonderful story about second chances. I really enjoyed it. Ben was a kind character and I Ioved that it was centered around a Christmas theme. The relationship with Vanessa and her daughter was heartwarming.
