The Lies They Told by Ellen Marie Wiseman

The American eugenics movement was one of the most horrendous betrayals that ever happened in this country. I applaud Ellen Marie Wiseman for bringing such controversial topics to the forefront of literature.

This was a beautiful depiction of survival in a world of pure hatred.

Lena Conti, a young un-wed immigrant struggles to hold on to her dignity and sanity as both are stripped away with her experience on Ellis Island. Her struggles continue with the family she is stranded with.

Set in the Blue Ridge mountains of Virginia, this story is fascinating, frustrating, and wonderfully written.

It shows that not much is respected or safe when the government wants something and innocent people stand in its way.

I loved this story so much! The narration was wonderful and it highlighted the characters and enhanced the experience of the story. It was excellent. 5/5⭐

I would like to thank NetGalley for the opportunity to review and ARC audiobook for this title.
