A Minute to Midnight by David Baldacci
This is the second Atlee Pine novel. It opens as Atlee is visiting a maximum-security prison, trying to get a narcissistic nightmare to reveal something new in relation to her sister’s case. He plays mind games.
In Shattered Rock, Arizona, she is the sole FBI agent, working with her assistant Carol Blum. In route home from her fruitless interview, she gets involved in a child abduction case and solves it.
She is given time off and heads to Georgia to further look for answers in her sister’s case. Her memories are hazy and don’t offer much in the small town of Andersonville, Georgia, where her nightmares began.
Cyrus Tanner and his canine companion, Rosco, seem to inhabit her old house. She looks for answers in the community, she uncovers secrets and surprises that make her question everything she thought she knew about her family and her past.
This is a compulsive, enthralling read with murder and twists you won’t anticipate. Baldacci is a master of thrillers and this one will keep you guessing. Great book! I really enjoyed it! Atlee Pine is a new favorite character! 4/5⭐
