The Battle of the Bookshops by Poppy Alexander
Enemies to Friends
Jules leaves her job as a junior publisher to help her aunt, Flo, with her bookshop, after Flo has a bad fall.
Capethorne’s Books has been around for nearly 100 years.
Jules finds the bookshop near bankruptcy with a lease coming due and the sum needed to secure it seems out of reach.
Portneath Books moves in across the street with money and Jules’ nemesis/crush from childhood.
He has money but she has the creativity, with conflict and competition building, the two go head-to-head competing in a true battle of the bookshops.
I really enjoyed the witty characters and the character relationships and interactions. The elements brought in with family history and old books was wonderfully alluring and held my interest.
I listened to an ARC of the audiobook and it was wonderfully done with an excellent character representation and voice. 4/5⭐
I would like to thank NetGalley for the opportunity to review the ARC of the audiobook.
